Artist Biography
Biru Jones is a musician, music producer, engineer, and composer. As his mother is a nurse and his father a chef, Biru is the first of his family to delve into the music entertainment realm.
His musical training began at the age of 9, when he first began playing clarinet. While focusing primarily on Concert Band repertoire, Biru began taking up other instruments beginning with the Guitar and Ukulele at age 14. In the following three years, Biru branched off into Beatboxing, Upright Bass, and singing. However, he did not receive private lessons for any instruments until the age of 17. Although he lacked any formal training, Biru achieved the role Principal Clarinet in the Washington-Lee Symphonic Band.
In order to pursue Music at the collegiate level, Biru and his Clarinet tutor, Betsy Campeau, began a five-month “bootcamp” style of training in order to improve his level of Clarinet performance. After months of hard work and auditions, Biru received seven acceptance letters, one from each school that he auditioned for. After much deliberation, he decided to study at Virginia Commonwealth University under Dr. Charles West.
Biru’s time at VCU helped him come to the realization that Clarinet Performance was not his true calling. While attending an A Capella competition called SingStrong with the Notochords of VCU, Biru learned about the part of music that was “behind the curtain”. Recording and mixing began to pique his interest, and he decided he wanted to shift the direction of his studies. Biru decided to leave VCU after one year, and instead moved to Dublin, Ireland to pursue a certificate in Audio and Sound Engineering from Pulse College.
During his studies in Dublin, Biru was fortunate enough to work and study in the famed Windmill Lane Recording Studio. He had the opportunity to work on The Windmill Lane Sessions, with Abbey Road Live Here Now, and to record and mix bands for his personal portfolio. It was during this period that Biru decided that he wanted to one day further his education by obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in the Music Industry. After obtaining his diploma from Pulse College in 2015, he decided to study at the school of his dreams, Berklee College of Music, where he would reinforce his knowledge of production, engineering, and sound design.
Biru is currently working towards Bachelor’s Degrees in Music Production and Engineering, as well as Electronic Production and Design with a minor in Audio Design for Video Games. He expects to graduate in 2018.
